POMONA COLLEGE CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
SEAVER NORTH BUILDING ACCESS, KEY ISSUANCE AND RETURN POLICIES
FOR STUDENTS
While studying and/or working
in the Chemistry Department, it is imperative that safety guidelines are
observed to avoid personal injury and that care is taken to insure that only
those authorized are allowed entry to the building and laboratories.
Building Card Access
- Card access is granted to
Chemistry and Molecular Biology majors on a semester by semester basis and
to other students authorized by the Chair of the Chemistry Department.
- To secure card access, obtain
a Seaver North Card Key Access Permission Form from the Chemistry
Department Stockroom, secure the necessary Faculty/Chair approvals and
take the completed form to the Stockroom Manager who will arrange for
access privileges.
Building Use
- Of utmost importance is your
safety when in the building, especially during late hours. We prefer that students are never
alone in the building after 7:00 pm and, more specifically, do not
ever work in laboratories alone.
- Never let strangers into the
building. Do not allow entry
to individual(s) you do not personally know.
- Never prop open any entrance
door.
- If you encounter anything
suspicious, or if an injury occurs, please notify Campus Security immediately at extension 72000.
- It is permitted to bring
friends into the building, but first-access to resources is intended for
majors.
- Students are not permitted to
bring alcoholic beverages in the building.
- Civil and polite behavior is
expected with regard to all interactions when in the building.
Computer Classrooms Rooms 205 and 113
- These rooms are used as
classrooms. As such, you
cannot lay claim to table space or a computer for extended periods of
time. When you leave a
computer, log off and take all of your materials with you. “Ownership” of
areas/resources will not be tolerated in these rooms. Anything left in these rooms will
be picked up periodically and placed in a box for retrieval. Each Friday the contents in that
box will be deposited in the trash.
- Locking computers for
personal use is not permitted.
Computers found locked will be shut off and re-booted. (Special cases for long-term
calculations must be cleared through a faculty member who will: a. notify all other faculty
members; and, b. provide a signed note that will be placed on the computer
in use.)
- People use these rooms to
study and compose brilliant pieces of work. Please be respectful of these study
areas and keep noise to a minimum.
The use of headphones to listen to music is permitted but public
broadcast of music or other sounds is not permitted unless everyone in the
room, including people entering later, agree that it is acceptable.
- Never prop the room entry
doors open.
- Eating and consumption of
beverages is not permitted in either of these computer rooms.
- Printing privileges in Room
205 are for majors only (except for students in courses that have been
granted permission).
Room 106 (Lounge)
- Again, never prop doors open
in this room.
- Eating and drinking of
non-alcoholic beverages is permitted in this room.
- Please clean up any mess that
you make by depositing all trash in the baskets available.
- In addition, this room is
used for study. Please be
respectful of how the room is being used and limit noise to a reasonable
level.
Key Issuance and Return Policy
- Determine which Seaver North
key(s) you require and obtain a copy of the three-part Key Issuance and Return Form*
from the Chemistry Department Stockroom.
- Complete the form, secure the
necessary Faculty/Chair approvals, and return it to the Stockroom; the
Stockroom Manager will issue the appropriate keys. You will receive a copy of the form
and the Stockroom Manager will keep the Department copy and the Student
Accounts copy.
- All keys are due at the end
of each semester. If you work
during the Fall Semester and intend to work during winter break, you must get
permission from your Faculty supervisor and the Chemistry Department Chair
to retain your key during this period. All keys are due at the end of the
Spring Semester. If you work
during the summer, the appropriate keys will be issued when you report for
work.
Violation of any
part of these policies will result in suspension of privileges.
* The Key Issuance and Return Form
details the rules and charge information for all key(s) issued for Seaver
North.
